Thoughts on Religion and Science
I believe in the Holy Trinity. I believe in the Bible which was written by man but divinely inspired by God. The Bible can not be considered a scientific fact-book although there are many facts contained within it.
God's time is not our own. It states in 2 Peter 3:8, "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." The key word here is "like" and the time conversion is not meant to be a literal 1:1 translation. The fact of the matter here is that God's days are not our own.
I believe in developmental creation or theistic evolution which holds that a given thing did develop from a previous state or form, but that this process was under God’s guidance.
God created the heavens and the Earth. The process was started with the Big Bang, approximately 13.75 ± 0.11 billion years ago. The literal translation of light and darkness as discussed in Genesis may equate to the original energy forms which were created at the time during and immediately following the Big Bang. For example, "darkness" would equate to everything excluding the Big Bang, possibly also including Dark Energy. "Light" equates to the Big Bang. "Water" could mean gas which formed after the Big Bang. (Note that the word "gas" is not in the Bible, but the word "vapor" appears about six times in the Bible with three references to rain or clouds: Job 36:27, Job 36:33 and Psalm 148:8.)
The process beginning with the Big Bang set the Earth's formation in motion which ended approximately 4.54 billion years ago. For Scripture records: "By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all their host [stars, nebulae, planets] by the breath of His mouth" (Ps. 33:6).
Once the Earth was formed, God [either directly or indirectly] created microbe-like objects such as the Prokaryotes (single-cell photosynthetic organisms which lack a cell nucleus) or Protobionts (an aggregate of abiotically produced organic molecules surrounded by a membrane or a membrane-like structure.) These, in turn, started the process or evolution of physical life to include plants, and animals. The evolution from Gorillas and Chimpanzees continued with a form of Humans, possibly between 5 and 20 million years ago when the species of Hominidae (aka Great Apes) and Homo Erectus split up.
Tool use generally did not change much between the period from 2.6 million years ago (in Ethiopia during the beginning of the Stone Age) to 6000 BCE (Before the Common Era). It is widely assumed that the first routine use of tools took place prior to the divergence humans and wild chimpanzees because tools are used extensively by both species. In a given location, a Stone Age was usually followed by a Bronze Age, during which metalworking technology allowed bronze (copper and tin or other metals) tools to become more common. The transition out of the Stone Age occurred somewhere between 6000 BCE and 2500 BCE for much of humanity living in North Africa, Asia and Europe. The Middle East and southeastern Asian regions progressed past Stone Age technology around 6000 BC. Europe, and the rest of Asia became post–Stone Age societies by about 4000 BCE.
Tool design remained fairly constant for 2,591,990 years and only transitioned in .2-.3% of this entire period, around 6,000-8,000 years ago. This was the case, in my opinion, because prior to the physical Human Adam [before the introduction of the soul + knowledge and Humankind,] general knowledge of all things including the use of such advanced tools and metalworking was only known to God and the angels.
God created Adam as a formless Heavenly being long before he was incorporated with a Human physical body. Adam became a physical man approximately 5,771 years ago or possibly on Monday, 7 October 3761 BCE according to the Hebrew calendar. (Note that this date may also equate to the beginning of the Mayan Calendar.) The Catholic church says "man's body developed from previous biological forms, under God's guidance, but it insists on the special creation of his soul."
Genesis 1:6-7 says "And God said, 'Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.' So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so." I believe that the water above the expanse was again referring to dense clouds, vapor, gas. This could possibly be a shield of sorts which would help to explain the long life expectancy of early mammals including Humans.
The Great Flood of Noah took place at approximately 2900-2807 BCE wiping out Humankind on the planet. Genesis 7:11 says "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month--on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened." Water itself is composed of two vapors known as oxygen and hydrogen; 85 parts of the first and 15 parts of the last. The electric spark, which is the same as lightning, passing through these airs, decomposes them and converts them to water. I think that the flood was caused by God and took shape in the form of a meteor/comet (the electric spark) which disrupted the dense hydrogen atmosphere. This comet may be the same one which crashed into the Indian Ocean causing the 30 km (18 mi) undersea Burckle Crater located off the coasts of Australia and Madagascar and generated a giant tsunami that flooded the coastal inlands.
The time between Adam and Jesus is approximately 4,000 years.
